Chanonee & Thunderbird Klondike Derby 2017

The annual Klondike Derby will be held again this year at Cantigny Park in Wheaton on Saturday February 4, 2017. 9am to 4pm. Boy Scout Troops will also have the opportunity to camp at Cantigny Friday and/or Saturday nights for no extra charge.

Attached are the forms for unit sign-up. There will be 10 or more stations to visit to test your preparedness and Scout skills, plus FUN events! Please read the info forms carefully! We plan to handle payment for the event by collecting a check from your unit the day of the event. Please plan to show up with a final roster of all your scout and adult attendees and a check covering all of them at $8 apiece made payable to Three Fires Council. All Scouts are asked to bring a can of soup to this event which can be turned in at registration.

SCOUT TROOPS: We are also taking information from Troops who are interested in hosting a competition event. We are trying this year to especially emphasize traditional Scouting skills, so please keep this in mind. You also need to be prepared to show up early on Saturday and set your event up so that you are ready to go by 8:30 am (apparently we had a straggler last year). Also please note that the Chanonee District operates their events so that the majority of the Boy Scouts get to compete, versus spending the day running an event. To enable this, the troop adult leaders have typically run the events. In particular, events that have been suggested by Chanonee Scouts that are not yet staffed are:

•    Team building (bear bag, mine field, etc)
•    Sled Race
•    Tug-O-War
•    Snowshoeing
•    All-hands game to keep everyone occupied at the end of the day when scores are being tallied

If you unit is interested in hosting an event, please contact Jeff Jeffers and Rich Tatara directly via e-mail. Winter is off to a great start, so we hope to see you at the Derby!
