Planning - the basis for unit success! Having a well thought out and published plan for the year is crucial to your unit's success. This month we will work through the steps of planning a year's activities using roundtable as an example. "Be Prepared" by bringing your ideas for future roundtables topics and how roundtable can better serve the needs of you and your units.

Boy Scout / Venturing Roundtable
Responsibilities
Your Boy Scout Roundtable Staff (Commissioner and volunteer staff) organizes and hosts monthly Boy Scout/Venturing Crew Roundtable meetings for Troop/Team/Crew adult leaders, committee members, and interested parents. Meetings take a variety of formats (demonstrations, panels, outside speakers, presentations, etc.) Roundtables may be held inside or outdoors. We’ll help you offer a better program for the youth in your unit(s) by providing timely information, effective tools, and fresh ideas for you to use.
Services Offered
Provide supplemental materials and instructions to prepare Troops, Teams, and Crews for District Scouting events. Contact and information/ideas exchange with other unit leaders and resources in the District and Council. Provide an open forum to address common unit needs and issues. Present awards to Adult Scout Leaders of Troops, Teams, and Crews. Got a Crew or Team? Periodic breakout groups will allow you to explore issues specific to an older boy unit. Get the right help, right here, right now! Provide news and advance details on upcoming District and Council events ranging from the latest awards and advancement opportunities to Summer Camp. Unit mail delivery of all important documents and event fliers needed to run a unit successfully. “Hands-On” Fun! Serious Refreshments!
You need to participate to make roundtables a success! Each month units are assigned a task to share at roundtable. These tasks are holding opening and closing ceremonies, sharing a recipe, and reviewing an outing that their troop recently took.
Opening: The opening should be creative and not necessarily be your troop's usual opening. One of the purposes of the ceremony is to learn new or different openings. Boy Scout Roundtable staff will provide the American flag and the Thunderbird District flag. Troops assigned are responsible for supplying other props, handouts, etc. Buddy troops should coordinate their assigned tasks.
Recipe: Bring a new or unusual recipe to share, or one of your troop's favorites. Try a low or no cleanup type of dish. The pot's the limit here! Please bring copies of your recipe to share. Again, buddy troops should coordinate to avoid duplication. Samples are always welcome, and tastefully enjoyed!
Outing Review: This is where you can give a personalized review of one of your unit's recent outings. It can be an unusual site or activity, a review of its facilities, attractions, lessons learned, extra or special preparation needed, etc. Let's share our knowledge of where we can take our youth to keep them active in the program.
Clean-up: "A Scout is Clean." This job includes folding and putting away chairs, helping carry equipment to the front door, and making sure we leave the meeting area cleaner than we found it!
ALL: Adult leaders of troops, teams and crews (uniformed and non-uniformed; scoutmasters, committee members and parents) are encouraged to attend and participate in every Roundtable and as temporary Roundtable staff. Second year WEBELOS leaders are encouraged to attend to better understand Boy Scouting as their dens prepare to transition into Boy Scouts.
