Thunderbird Chapter - Order of the Arrow

To recognize those campers – Scouts and Scouters – who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and by such recognition cause other campers to conduct themselves in such a manner to warrant recognition.
To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit.
To promote Scout camping, which reaches its greatest effectiveness as part of the unit’s camping program, both year-round and in summer camp, as directed by the camping committee of the Council.
To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others.

The OA Chapter Meetings are held at the LDS Church in Naperville at 1320 Ridgeland Ave, Naperville, IL 60563. Chapter meetings are at 7:30pm on the SECOND Thursday of each month. Each Troop should send a representative to the monthly meetings.

BOWLING: Lowaneu Allanque Lodge #41 - 2010 Bowl-A-Thon at Brunswick Zone
1515 W. Aurora Avenue, Naperville, IL
March 26, 2010 (11:30PM – Midnight Arrival) to March 27, 2010 (6:00AM Departure)
Doors will be locked at Midnight and no one will be allowed to leave until 6:00 AM. Any group bringing 3 or more youth must bring a paid adult to stay for the event Non-Scouts and Scouts that are not OA Members can attend the Bowl-A-Thon.
Schedule:
11:30 PM – Midnight - arrival
Midnight – 6 AM - Bowling, Video Games, and Rides
1 AM -3 AM - Unlimited pizza and pop
6 AM - Departure
Cost: Registration Fee $40.00
Discount (by 3/12/2010) -$5.00
Registration Fee includes pizza, pop, Video Games, Rides, and Unlimited Bowling.

BROTHERHOOD CEREMONY: T-Bird will be having a Brotherhood ceremony on April 9 at the Thunderbird Youth Campground at Greene Valley Forest Preserve. Exact times are no known yet, but participants will need a coat, flashlight, and water, in addition to the letter required for Brotherhood advancement.

The Order of the Arrow is Scouting’s “National Honor Society.” We are called upon by our units, districts, and Council for leadership and service. We have many high ideals and principles to live up to, and must lead by example. We live by the Scout Oath and Law in our daily lives. These are the same principles you live and lead by as a Scoutmaster. That is why we are writing to you ensure the success of our Scouts and to maximize the opportunities they have through-out their Scouting adventure. Purpose of the Order of the Arrow
Membership Qualifications
Each unit may elect Scouts and a Scouter who warrant recognition as noted in the purpose statements. Elections are conducted by members of the Order of the Arrow at each unit during the winter. A Scout must be First Class rank, have a minimum of 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping experience during the two-year period prior to the election. The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the BSA. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps. Candidates must meet the requirements for membership as specified by the national Order of the Arrow committee. Elected candidates must attend the Lowaneu Allanque Lodge #41 Ordeal ceremony in order to become a member of the Order of the Arrow. The Ordeal ceremony is held at the Fall and Spring Fellowship weekends and at Camp Freeland Leslie during every week of Boy Scout Summer camp.
