What's NEW?

Hot NewsYOUTH PROTECTION UPDATE: Changes to the BSA’s Youth Protection Training Policies - Effective June 1, 2010 - Youth safety is the No. 1 concern of the BSA. To increase awareness of this societal problem and to create even greater barriers to abuse than already exist today in Scouting, the Boy Scouts of America is implementing several important changes to further enhance its Youth Protection policies: Effective June 1, 2010: Youth Protection Training is required for all registered volunteers. New leaders are required to take Youth Protection Training before they submit their application for registration. The certificate of completion for this training must be submitted at the time application is made and before volunteer service with youth begins. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection Training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be re-registered.

This training is designed to provide all leaders and volunteers with proper information to create the safest environment possible for the Scouts in our program. Online training for youth protection is available 24/7 and can be completed through the National BSA Online Learning Center— MyScouting. To find out more about the Youth Protection policies of the BSA and how to help Scouting keep your family safe, see the information available in any of the Cub Scouting or Boy Scouting handbooks, or go to Youth Protection at Scouting.org.

NOTE FROM LOVES & FISHES:Dear Friends, Thank you all for your outstanding efforts this past Saturday with our Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. I know people were disappointed that we did not collect as much as we had last year, but we must look at this as “the glass half full,” and that we have raised over 31,000 pounds of food that we did not have before for people in need. That is wonderful work! We have also raised considerable awareness in the community that hungers exists, and that we need everyone to be a part of the solution to end it. Loaves & Fishes is deeply grateful for your steadfast support of this food drive. You are all awesome, great friends to the pantry and to the many people served through your generosity. Warm regards, Charles

Scouting for Food - Thanks!

Scouting For Food Scouting For Food The Boy Scouts of Thunderbird District thank their neighbors for their response to our February Scouting for Food collection. More than 16,500 pounds of food were collected by more than 1,100 Scouts, leaders, adults, and siblings, and donated to the Lisle Township Food Pantry, Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry in Naperville, St. Thomas the Apostle Food Pantry in Naperville, and the Woodridge Community Pantry.
Approximately two-thirds of the Scouts distributed fliers to almost 20,000 homes in the Lisle, Naperville and Woodridge areas, and then picked up donations of food and paper goods on February 20. The other third of the Scouts picked up donations at Pack and Troop events during February.
Participating this year were thirty units from Thunderbird District: Lisle’s Pack 89, Pack 108, Troop 108, and Pack 504, Naperville’s Pack 66, Troop 68, Pack 70, Pack 87, Troop 100, Troop 107, Pack, Troop and Team 198, Troop 222, Pack 362, Troop 501, Pack 503, Troop 505, Pack 507, Pack 513, Pack 562, Pack 565, Pack 567, and Pack 5556, and Woodridge’s Pack 104, Troop 109, Troop 133, Pack 367, Pack 512, and Troop 516.
